Ensuring hospital’s smooth daily operations

Part of the Mehiläinen group, the leading private healthcare provider in Finland, Mehiläinen NEO is an orthopaedic and sports clinic in Turku, Finland, that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.

In hospitals, numerous members of medical and healthcare staff with many different tasks and responsibilities are all trying to coexist. Some staff members work within a limited area – such as a single unit or floor – while others move around the premises constantly. Locking systems have to meet the strictest requirements, especially when a significant number of keys and changing access rights are involved.

The locking system has a direct impact on the efficiency of everyday operations in a hospital. A high level of security is vital, but the system must be able to ensure that tasks can be carried out quickly and smoothly. Using traditional mechanical systems, access management and key logistics are complicated and expensive and can lead to frustration for staff and discomfort for patients.

Mehiläinen NEO chose iLOQ S10 to be the hospital’s locking solution when the premises was opened in 2011. To date, there are 468 locks and 524 keys in use.

The main reasons for choosing iLOQ S10 was because the system made it easy to manage and control the multiple access points for a large number of people. In addition, programming of the locks was easy in the early days of the hospital when it was not clear who should have access and to what areas.

“The biggest ongoing benefits of the solution are that the keys are very easy to update. The same key can be reprogrammed many times according to needs and as access rights change. In addition, if a key is lost, its access rights can be cancelled. There’s no need to go to the expense of and suffer the inconvenience of replacing the locks.”
