The Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS) is the biggest healthcare provider and the second largest employer in Finland. It currently runs over 20 hospitals in Southern Finland.

HUS has been implementing a long-term renovation and new construction program for many of its buildings, including major works at Lohja Hospital.

In 2017, construction of a new building to house the psychiatry department was completed. To enhance the safety and security of the building, both now and in the future, the iLOQ S10 digital locking system was installed. Other benefits of the system for hospital administrators included traceability, the fact that there are no batteries to be replaced and access rights to lost keys can easily be cancelled and reissued without having to re-serialize the locks. Currently, approximately 1,500 keys have been delivered and 1,300 locks have been installed.

This implementation also kick-started the renewal of the existing locking system (which no longer provided adequate protection) for the entire hospital campus. To date, about 70% of the hospital locks have been replaced with iLOQ, with the intention of replacing all locks by 2021.

Lohja Hospital is also currently undergoing a 2-million Euro refurbishment of its intensive care unit, which will be completed in the first half of 2020. As part of the renovation program, these locks will also be replaced with the iLOQ S10 digital locking system.

“All installations have gone well and there have been no problems. We are very pleased with the high quality and convenience of this locking solution,” Teuvo Koivisto, Property Manager, HUS.
