Case Stadtwerke Steinburg: Increased security for IT-critical infrastructures

iLOQ’s battery- and cable-free technology fulfills the company’s sustainability goals, the locking process is simple, and administration of the system is fast and flexible.

Stadtwerke Steinburg GmbH is a sustainable energy and infrastructure service provider based in Itzehoe in Northern Germany. The enterprise is responsible for the security of supply for an entire region as well as the innovative and ecological development of electricity, gas, drinking water, district heating and telecommunications networks.

When the time came to replace the existing mechanical locking system, the customer wanted to find a solution that increased security and where it was possible to react flexibly and quickly to changes in access rights. Other requirements were for the whole system to be as environmentally friendly as possible, to have low maintenance costs and for operation to be as easy as with a mechanical locking cylinder.

Stadtwerke Steinburg chose the new iLOQ 5 Series access management platform that brings together the iLOQ S5 self-powered digital locking system and the iLOQ S50 NFC-powered mobile access sharing solution under one easy-to-use software platform. The battery- and cable-free technology fulfills the company’s sustainability goals. The locking process is simple, and administration of the system is fast and flexible – in peripheral buildings, access rights can be granted instantly and remotely to service personnel’s phones. This eliminates unnecessary journeys if an employee needs quick access to a technical system.

So far, the delivery includes 100 iLOQ S5 cylinders, 4 iLOQ Online readers, 20 iLOQ S50 cylinders with a planned expansion of a further 800 iLOQ S5 cylinders, 400 iLOQ S50 cylinders and 10 iLOQ Online readers.

“iLOQ enables me to ensure increased security, especially for IT-critical infrastructures, we don’t have to worry if a person loses their key and we are happy with the good price-performance ratio,” explains Stefan Gladow, Group leader, real estate and law, Stadtwerke Steinburg GmbH.
