About the customer

Alliade Habitat builds, rents and manages social housing for employees, students and young professionals in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its current portfolio is 60,000 homes with over 130,000 tenants.

About the project

In 2023, an iconic 19th-century building in Lyon underwent major renovation work to transform it into a modern student housing complex. 36 housing units, from studios to four-room apartments to allow for shared accommodation, have been created for a total of 58 students. As part of the renovation process, the developers were looking to improve access to the property and make it more secure and connected.

The solution

The old mechanical locking cylinders were removed, and the building was completely retrofitted with iLOQ’s smartphone-based digital locking solution. Access rights for the residence are managed by Alliade Habitat.

How life in Serin College became simpler and more secure and connected with iLOQ

Smart access with a smartphone or key fob

Instead of having to carry around many keys, students get access to their apartment using their smartphone and to the shared spaces (such as the laundry room and bicycle storage unit) with the key fob.

Remote programming keeps access up to date

Access rights are programmed using iLOQ’s cloud-based SaaS solution and sent to iLOQ’s app running on the student’s smartphone. The access rights can be updated remotely and in real time as needs change and immediately cancelled when a student moves out.

Security and cost efficiency through enhanced key management

There is no complex administration: Locking system administrators know from the programming software exactly who has access to where and when. The need to manually issue and collect physical keys is removed, and security risks related to lost or stolen keys and unauthorized key copying are eliminated.

Low lifecycle costs through battery-free operation

iLOQ’s solution is battery-free. The power needed to recognize access rights and open locks comes from the NFC induction of the student’s smartphone when it is held against the lock. This removes the need to purchase batteries and pay for the maintenance to continually change them and eliminates unrecyclable battery waste.

“We believe that housing is more than just a place to stay – it’s a smart, sustainable environment designed for better living.”
