About the project
Telia Towers Norway was looking for a solution to enhance security, offer efficient access management and improve services for the company’s more than 1000 tower sites. Due to the country’s diverse geography, sites are located in a wide variety of environments that include urban areas, mountainous and coastal areas, forested and rural regions. The harsh climate in some of the Arctic and Sub-Arctic regions also had to be taken into consideration.
Telia Towers Norway already had a digital locking system with physical keys from another manufacturer. However, key storage had to be outsourced to a nationwide security company, technicians had to travel to validate, pick up and return keys, which was time-consuming and a big challenge in the west and northern parts of Norway where it was often necessary to take at least one ferry.
The solution
Telia Towers Norway chose to install iLOQ’s battery-free and maintenance-free smart locks with the possibility for smartphone-based access.
“Most of our sites are remote, and they are on top of hills and mountains. But now when we have iLOQ in almost 1000 sites, we have more easy access than before. We have full control of who is accessing and who gets the keys, so it suits very well to our infrastructure.”

Seamless key handling
Designed for facilities that are a vital part of the infrastructure, iLOQ’s solution is keyless. Sites are accessed using an NFC-enabled smartphone with mobile keys sent to iLOQ’s app running on the phone. This eliminates the security risks associated with lost or stolen physical keys.
Remote updates to access rights
The mobile keys contain access rights which are issued remotely and in real time. They can be updated and cancelled as needs change to ensure only the right people have access to the right places at the right times. Administration of multiple sites is conveniently consolidated into iLOQ’s user-friendly and secure cloud-based software platform.

As iLOQ’s solution is battery- and cable-free and no internet or Wi-Fi connection is necessary, iLOQ’s solution operates reliably in remote locations, harsh environments and even in power outages.

As with all iLOQ solutions, this keyless solution is battery-free. The energy needed for unlocking comes from the smartphone itself. This helps Telia Towers eliminate unrecyclable battery waste and the environmental impact of travelling for maintenance purposes or for site workers to collect and return keys.
