The idea of the battery-free iLOQ S5 digital locking system was a welcome improvement for the huge government building.

The role of the Federal Office for Social Security, based in Bonn, Germany, is to mitigate social disadvantages, provide support in emergencies, enable participation and hold the community together. In November 2020, the office installed the battery-free iLOQ S5 digital locking system.

Looking for resource-efficient locking solutions

To make it more resource efficient, the federal data protection office of the Federal Office for Social Security was looking for a digital locking system that works without batteries or cabling.

In a huge government building, there is always a lot of movement and employees need many different access authorizations. Prior to iLOQ, when mechanical locks were in use, the employees had to carry a lot of keys to get into all the different rooms they needed to use.

Secure access management across a large government office

The idea of the battery-free iLOQ S5 digital locking system was a welcome improvement for the huge government building. It took some effort to convince the federal data protection officer and the IT security officer about the security and stability of iLOQ’s SaaS-based access management platform. But, when they were satisfied with the technical excellence, the system was installed in November 2020.

Government employees needed only a little training to understand the improvements offered by the new locking system. “After we explained and demonstrated it to them, everyone was delighted with the iLOQ solution,” explains Philipp Schlecht, Head of Infrastructural Management at the Federal Office of Social Security.

No maintenance, no batteries, low lifecycle costs

The iLOQ S5 system is maintenance free, with multi-seat solution software. The locking system requires no batteries, which is not just very handy but also environmentally sustainable. One key can be used to open all the appropriate doors for the employee working within the building.

The iLOQ system is extremely easy to manage, and the transition from mechanical locking to digital access management was simple. It only takes a few minutes to learn to use the system and the support hotline is always available for quick and precise help.

“We are very satisfied with the solution because every day we discover more possibilities to optimize our locking system. We plan to extend iLOQ to further departments housed in the same building,” states Tobias Wäsch, Access Management at the Federal Office for Social Security.
