About the customer

Rocky View Foundation offers a range of programs designed to meet diverse needs, including Independent Living apartments for those seeking affordable, self-sufficient living, Senior Lodges that provide a comfortable, community-oriented environment with essential services, and the Rental Assistance Benefit (RAB) program, which helps low-income individuals and families by subsidizing rent in the Rocky View Region.

About the project

The Rocky View Foundation was looking for an access control solution for the resident suites, exterior entrances and rentable event space at their largest apartment-style senior-living lodge.

The existing hardware and software were nearing end of life. A significant amount of staff time was tied up with frequent battery replacement and lock maintenance. It was important to avoid replacing the existing system with another solution that would create similar battery, maintenance, and software requirements.

The solution

The Facility Manager first discovered iLOQ while solving access challenges in commercial property management, then recognized its value again when he moved into senior housing and introduced the solution in a completely different environment.

The installation included approximately 95 iLOQ leversets, 4 wired network readers, resident fobs, mobile credentials and ADA grip adapters. iLOQ provided battery-free locks, centrally managed fob and mobile access and wired readers where needed, without adding electrical maintenance to resident doors. iLOQ and Accessio maintained the doors’ fire-code rating avoiding the need to re-certify more than 100 doors. Training sessions were also provided for the residents.

How everyday life became easier, safer and more efficient for the Rocky View Foundation

Reduced maintenance and lower lifecycle costs

iLOQ’s battery-free smart-locking solution eliminates both the cost of purchasing batteries and the ongoing maintenance required to replace them. For a non-profit organization like the Rocky View Foundation, this means valuable resources can be redirected towards supporting residents and advancing its mission. With no batteries to monitor, replace or dispose of, staff spend less time managing the access system and more time focused on delivering quality care and day-to-day support.

Easy access for every user

Residents can use either a key fob or their smartphone to access the property, offering flexibility and convenience. The modern access experience makes everyday life easier while supporting the future adoption of mobile-based technologies.

Simplified access management

Access rights are managed centrally, making it quick and easy to issue, update or revoke credentials when residents move in or out. This reduces administration, improves security and gives staff greater visibility and control over access across the property.

Fast implementation with trusted local support

The solution was delivered with support from iLOQ and its local installation partner, ensuring a smooth implementation process. The modern, retrofit-friendly approach required no additional electrical infrastructure to resident doors, minimizing disruption while helping the Rocky View Foundation modernize its buildings.

“At the beginning, we looked at the full maintenance cost of other systems, from dedicated staff time and battery replacement to the risk of damaging hardware every time it was taken apart. With iLOQ, there are no batteries in the locks, so the ongoing maintenance is minimal.”
