A one-key solution that optimizes residential security
About the customer
Kajaani Lönnrotinkatu is a property in Kainuu Province that was built in the early 1960s. It has 85 apartments and a range of shared spaces such as storage cages, a bicycle warehouse, laundry room and waste room.
About the project
With many tenants, keys were frequently lost which reduced security levels. As the mechanical locking system was outdated, they had run out of spare keys and locks could no longer be rekeyed. Additionally, there was no way to keep track of who had keys. Duplicated keys had fallen into the wrong hands, and, unfortunately, storage cages had been broken into, and bicycles had been stolen. To enhance security and reduce administration time and costs, the housing association decided to implement iLOQ’s smart-locking solution.
The solution
Approximately 200 battery-free smart locks and 350 digital keys are in use throughout the property. They are used to secure the front door, the doors to the individual apartments and to the shared spaces. The front doors are equipped with four iLOQ Online readers. These code-operated locks can be opened using iLOQ’s app with a smartphone. There are also approximately 20 padlocks for the roof hatches and water meter box.

Maximized security
The biggest benefit for the housing association is that one key is all you need to access all the areas in the building. If that key is lost, it can be instantly blocked and a new digital key programmed. There is no need to rekey the locks. It is also easy to see from the access log if a key has been misused and who is the culprit.

It also blocks access to the locks for the basement corridor and storage cages in the attic between 10pm and 6am. And the audit trail with timestamps tracks all attempts to open the locks to help to prevent unauthorized access.
Security maintained during renovations
Renovation work is about to begin, which means that contractors coming to the site will need temporary access rights. These can be granted in advance and scheduled to begin and end at specific times. It’s easy to ensure contractors have access only to the right places and at the right times.
