Efficiency – the one thing that comes up in many conversations

It seems the world has shifted from talking about sustainability to efficiency. But in many cases – and especially in the case of iLOQ – we seem to be talking about much the same thing. Efficient digital smart-locking solutions are more sustainable, but the kind of efficiency we refer to brings many other benefits as well.

Whether it be because of tightening regulations or the simple fear of being called out for greenwashing, it seems that all of a sudden sustainability is not a priority in the communications of corporations. However, the term efficiency is being applied to all possible products and services. Perhaps because it is the more practical and measurable cousin of sustainability. Whatever the term we choose to use, iLOQ has this side of things covered.

Efficiency delivers benefits

The kind of efficiencies we deliver tend to reflect positively on the environmental impact of our solution. We are of course talking about energy efficiency, raw material efficiency, virtually non-existent service requirements and a solution lifecycle that far surpasses that of competition from the realm of traditional mechanical locking and most digital access management solutions on the market today.

Energy efficiency

Your iLOQ smart-locking solution installed in a commercial, industrial or a multi-family residential property does not require mains electricity or batteries to function in daily use. The energy needed for secure digital two-way authentication and unlocking is either harnesses from the kinetic energy of key insertion or from your NFC-enabled mobile device, depending on the type of solution in use.

The reduced consumption of energy and the utilization of non-mains power creates direct savings for the building owner and management in terms of expenditure and environmental impact. Not being reliant on mains electricity also improves the reliability of the smart-locking system in instances where wider power outages have shown us the vulnerability of many electric and digital solutions.

Material efficiency

For the iLOQ smart-locking technology, the most important reduction in material usage comes from being battery-free. In addition to self-reliance, it spells out huge financial and environmental savings, when you generate no harmful battery waste at all over a solution’s entire operational lifecycle. A self-powered solution also reduces the need for hardwiring each lock into a loop with copper wiring.

Abandoning the physical key as well is for many properties the next step in streamlined performance and efficiency. The mobile key is already commonplace in many industrial and commercial properties. Also, when it comes to multi-family housing, the American market is leading the charge towards keyless, mobile-only entry.

Maintenance-free

How a solution performs over its lifecycle says a lot about its true responsibility. No batteries means no battery changes. That’s how our technology eliminates thousands of miles of driving done by service and maintenance partners each year. By eliminating the emissions resulting from covering physical distances, a smart-locking solution can actually reduce the carbon footprint of a property on a day-to-day scale.

Lifecycle performance

Efficiency to us means sustained reliable performance over an extended period of time. iLOQ smart-locking solutions all share the attribute of resilience and a particular resistance to the deterioration of security due to lost keys or credentials. Building management, and the individual user to a certain extent, have full control of access rights with the ability to revoke access from lost keys or mobile devices in real time. So, security does not decrease with every change of tenant or lost key as is the case with traditional mechanical locking systems. We offer the same high level of security across the full lifecycle of our solution.
